The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Patiently Listening in Rokitno

The Church of Our Lady of Rokitnian was raised to the rank of Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 2001. It was to replace a wooden church that was not large enough to accommodate the ever-growing number of pilgrims coming to see the Miraculous Picture. The Basilica’s construction began in 1705. Initially, it was to stand on a hill near the village, which is still called Góra Kościelna today. Eventually, the church began to be built in 1740 on a specially raised hill in the middle of the village. The sanctuary in Rokitno, with its main object of religious veneration – the Miraculous Picture of the Mother of God, has a centuries-long history as a school of living faith for the people of these lands.

Prayer, silence – Basilica, Rokitnian Gardens, Rokitnian Calvary
Rokitno is a sign of our need to stop the rush. The rush which is imposed by the pace of life and immoderation in its consumption. A rush during which we have no time to listen or talk. Here, in Rokitno, there is Someone to Whom we can talk, Someone Who listens. Here, we can stop our hustle and bustle, walk slowly through all the stops.
