The Rzeczpospolita Ptasia in the Warta Mouth is a dream destination for nature lovers, photographers and especially for birdwatchers. The floodplains near Słońsk, protected as a national park and Natura 2000 area, are one of the most important wetlands in Europe, attracting hundreds of thousands of birds during their migration. Hiking and cycling trails lead through endless meadows with grazing herds of cows and horses. The history of this area related to the Order of St. John and New America is also extremely interesting.
Weekend in the Rzeczpospolita Ptasia
The Rzeczpospolita Ptasia is not only a very attractive area of floodplains in the Warta Mouth, but most of all it is a bird enthusiasts club associating already over 3400 holders of original passports issued in Słońsk.
There are 6 marked trails with a total length of 72 km in the Rzeczpospolita Ptasia.
Marked "bird" walking trails lead through picturesque and sometimes quite desolate areas of the Warta Mouth Landscape Park. Open spaces of meadows and pastures separated by canals and old riverbeds, grazing herds of cows and horses and small tree clusters, which are often the only traces of old settlements, are typical elements of the landscape of the lower Warta Valley. Each trail is named after a species of bird that can be seen along the route. The Gęgawa, Darkacz, Kani and Dudek trails are marked as footpaths, but are also accessible to cyclists, although they lead along unpaved roads. The Dzięcioł trail is a nature and education trail leading through forest nature reserves. Zimorodek trail is a canoe trail on the Postomia River and old riverbeds of Warta.
An additional attraction for geocaching enthusiasts are the caches located along the trails.
Tourists have at their disposal accommodation and board in agritourist lodgings, hotels and restaurants. Tourists can also use the tourist information office run by Dudek Nature Tourism Office in Słońsk, where they can buy maps, guides, obtain information on attractions in Słońsk and the region, which will allow them to plan their stay.
During the stay visitors can go on:
– a trip combined with bird watching in the "Warta Mouth" National Park, on foot or on a bike rented at the agritourism farm
– canoeing on the old riverbeds of Warta and Postomia
– bicycle rally "Following Theodore Fontane’s Traces" – 13 September 2020
– bike tour around New America
– visit the Exhibition of Regional Souvenirs and the Museum of Martyrdom in Słońsk.
It is also worth visiting one of the two Passport Offices and becoming a citizen of the Rzeczpospolita Ptasia.
