The castle in Międzyrzecz was built on the site of an older wooden-earth fortress, located in the fork of the Obra and Paklica rivers. Probably in the 13th century a brick tower was erected on the settlement, and the full reconstruction into a brick fortress took place in the middle of the 14th century, during the reign of Kazimierz Wielki.
