The Promnitzów Palace in Żary was built in the Baroque style in 1710-1728 on the initiative of Erdmann II Promnitz. The palace construction was one of the elements of a larger project aimed at creating an impressive representative complex. The palace was erected on the site of a medieval bailey.
The Promnitzów Palace together with the castle is the main element of residential complex located in the north-western part of the city. Currently, the complex also includes: the garden palace "Knight Academy" from 1725, now a military hospital at Domański Street; geometrical park at Domański Street, from the 18th century with the Blue Gate from 1708; former castle farm at Poznańska Street, from the 18th century: granary; stables; farm building; distillery; barn and four houses at Poznańska 3 a-b-c-d.
The palace plan consists of four wings enclosing a rectangular courtyard. The three-storey building block is covered with a mansard roof. The front elevation, south-facing, has a monumental and representative character[1].
Currently the palace is unused and neglected.
