Bog iron, which was used in Lubusz Region for the construction of residential, farm and sacral buildings, is a quite original building material distinguishing this architecture. Bog iron is a rock containing iron compounds, which has a characteristic brown colour, originally used for smelting iron, but later found its way into regional construction. That is why today in Lubusz Voivodeship we can find many buildings erected using bog iron. It was a very popular building material, especially in the area between Zielona Góra and Żagań, and on islands near Żary. Glass slag produced as a result of iron smelting processes was also used in construction. It is distinguished by its characteristic blue color.
