The post-Augustinian monastery complex in Żagań

In 2011, the post-Augustinian monastery complex in Żagań gained the status of a Monument of History, the title replacing the former classification of monuments of the class "0.” The Order of Canons Regular of St. Augustine came to Żagań in 1284 from the nearby Nowogród Bobrzański, and for centuries the abbey was a specific theological and scientific centre in the region. In 1769, one of the first lightning rods in Europe was installed on the tower of the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The post-Augustinian complex in Żagań is considered one of the most valuable sacral monuments of historic Silesia. The complex of monastery buildings impresses with its scale and architectural solutions.
